1. What is a typical Camp Day Like?
2. Is there a description of each camp?
3. Why do you separate camps
by grade instead of age?
We separate by grade finished instead of age because
the school systems do a decent job of assigning children to the grade
most appropriate for their academic level and social level.
4. Do you have
scholarships?
Yes we have limited scholarship money. Monies are
allocated based on first time campers with financial need up to 50% of the total
cost of a residential camp week ($275). Camper families should check with
their church or other institutions for financial help.
5. What should my child
bring to camp?
After receipt of your registration forms you will be sent a
letter listing what to bring and what not to bring.
6. My child sometimes wets
the bed or wears Pull-Ups and I am afraid they will be teased.
This is a very common problem for kids coming to camp.
If a child wets their sleeping bag they should tell the counselor. If
they don't we usually figure out there is a wet bag in the cabin. During
the day the bag is removed by staff, washed/dried and returned to the bunk like
nothing ever happened. If your child uses Pull-Ups at night we encourage
you to send a "toiletry bag" that can fit a Pull-Up. All campers use the
bathrooms before going to bed for teeth brushing and are encouraged to use the
toilet. While using the toilet they can quickly change - no one will know.
In the morning same routine - but all we ask is that you supply your child with
plastic grocery bags to wrap the wet item up in prior to being thrown in the
trash can. The counselor will be informed which children need oversight in
this area.
7. May I
mail, email or call my child while they are at camp?
We encourage you to mail your child - better yet write
a letter per day and drop them off with the staff when you bring your child to
camp. Staff hands out mail at lunch each day. CLBC is set up to handle
camper email but does not provide the opportunity to respond. We do not
allow campers to receive personal phone calls while at camp and they are not
allowed to use cell phones. We have
found that phone calls almost always result in the camper going home. It
is up to the Nurse and the Camp Director whether a camper needs to call home.
8. My child has
allergies - can you accommodate him/her?
Yes we can accommodate most allergies (food or other wise).
Please remember this is a natural environment and many activities take place
outside. We just need to know ahead of time.
9. My
child takes medication and will need to be given it at camp?
State Law mandates that children's camp must have a RN, MD or EMT on premises. The nurse collects medications at registration.
Medications must be in their original containers with the dispensing information
or the medication will not be given at camp. Please do not send pill
organizers. Usually medications are given at Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner and
right after the evening activity. If a child needs medication at some
other time the nurse will arrange with the counselor to give the child their
medication.
10. My child has
special needs can they still come to camp?
China Lake Camps staff assess each of these children on an
individual basis. We want your child to have a great camp experience and a
safe one.
